Extreme Cold Should Break Before Weekend: Ohio Forecast

Temperatures could hit 50 degrees on Sunday, after wind chill temperatures of -40 degrees blew through northern Ohio this week.

The dangerously cold temperatures should start to gradually warm up going into Friday, the National Weather Service is forecasting. Wind chill temperatures remain in the -25 degrees range through about Friday morning.

The severe cold may have claimed at least one life — a 59-year-old man in Euclid, broken water mains, closed schools, delayed mail delivery and trash collection, and wreaked havoc on northern Ohio. The National Weather Service's wind chill warning, which had been in place for all of Wednesday, could expire at 4 p.m. on Thursday.

In classic Ohio fashion, the -40 degree wind chill temperatures on Wednesday could turn to upper-40 degree on Sunday. Between Thursday and Sunday, there could be snow on Friday and Saturday night.

Luckily, less than two inches of snow is expected to fall after the cold spell breaks. Between Friday night, when temperatures could drop to 16 degrees, and Saturday, when temperatures could spike to 41 degrees, Northeast Ohioans could see huge swings in the temperature.
