Flash Flood Watch Issued For Northeast Ohio On Thursday

Much of Ohio is under a flash flood watch on Thursday, the National Weather Service announced.

Much of Northeast Ohio is under a flash flood watch on Thursday, the National Weather Service announced.

The flood watch is in place until 8 p.m. Thursday. The watch is in place for Cuyahoga, Lorain, Ashland, Geauga, Mahoning, Lake, Medina, Summit, and other Northeast Ohio counties.

"Localized areas of moderate to heavy rainfall will continue over the region today as low pressure over Indiana continues east along a front over central Ohio. Meanwhile, many areas remain saturated from recent rainfalls, allowing for rapid runoff of rain water and an increased risk for flash flooding," the National Weather Service said.

A low pressure system over Indiana is moving east, along a front over central Ohio. Those developments have prompted increased rain throughout much of Ohio. Add in the heavy rainfall that has already saturated the ground in the Buckeye State, and conditions are ripe for runoff and flash flooding.

The National Weather Service predicts that two inches of rain is possible throughout the state, which could lead to further flooding.
