Flooding Possible For Parts Of Northeast Ohio

Up to two inches of rain has already fallen in some areas. Another inch of rain could fall before the end of the night.

CLEVLAND, OH — More than two inches of rain has already fallen throughout much of the Greater Cleveland area and a flood warning has been issued for much of Northeast Ohio by the National Weather Service. Streets may already be flooded and drivers are urged to be extra cautious when commuting in the evening.

The flood warning is in effect for Cuyahoga, Medina, Stark, Summit, Wayne and Holmes counties on Sunday. The warning will remain in place until about 12:15 a.m. on Monday.

"Locally heavy rainfall is possible through this evening. Ponding of water and localized flooding may occur. Rises on area creeks and streams are likely," the NWS said.

The Cuyahoga River is already close to flooding in Independence, according to the NWS. The water level was up to 15.5 feet at 7 p.m. on Sunday. The river is likely to flood at 17 feet. The National Weather Service said the river is likely to flood and reach heights of 18.2 feet. The river should subside by Monday morning.

Rain could continue Monday, though it's unlikely to reach Sunday's precipitation levels. Sadly, as temperatures continue to drop during the early portions of the week snow is possibly on Monday night. Less than half an inch of snowfall is expected to accumulate on Monday.
