2020 has been a difficult year. Many of us continue to struggle with a sense of loss, as our daily routines and habits have been dramatically altered and any return to our ‘normal’ lifestyle feels so far away. For those we serve at FrontLine—who were already overwhelmed with homelessness, mental health challenges, poverty and generational trauma—this year has been especially devastating. As the pandemic forced us to take precautions to maximize safety, the services and resources provided by many social service agencies became almost impossible to access. Many agencies were simply forced to close their doors.

Our doors remained open. Not only to the individuals and families that FrontLine was already working with, but to those who walked in because there was nowhere else to go. Quickly enacting the protocols necessary to maximize the safety of staff and clients from COVID-19, FrontLine continues to reach out to those in our community whose lives are in crisis to provide them with the services and support that are essential for their recovery and healing.

In past years, FrontLine Service has depended upon an annual spring fundraiser to provide critical dollars to support the work we carry out in our community. The cancellation of our 2020 fundraiser event due to the pandemic has resulted in a significant loss of funding. We have set a goal of raising $75,000 from this campaign to support the programs and services that are so essential to the individuals and families we serve.

Through this campaign, donations will help:

∙ Individuals and families living on the streets or in emergency shelters, as we work with them to provide opportunities for permanent supportive housing
∙ Ensure that a licensed professional is available 24 hours a day/7 days a week to answer the call from your family member, friend or co-worker who is experiencing a mental health or substance use crisis, or who is thinking about ending their own life
∙ Our outreach teams provide immediate, practical and therapeutic services to children who have witnessed a parent’s murder, families who have experienced domestic violence, and victims of a sudden, violent loss.

FrontLine Service is also excited to share a monthly series of stories based on the experiences of those served by the agency. Our first story looks into the world of an expectant mother and her young son as she works to create a new life for her family after leaving an abusive home. They find help through a case manager through FrontLine Service’s Children Who Witness Violence program. The story is available here: https://www.frontlineservice.o...
