Gas Prices Continue To Tumble In Ohio, Across Nation

Fuel prices are falling to 2017 lows, despite the summer season and holiday weekend.

CLEVELAND, OH — Gas prices in the Buckeye State fell another 7 cents over the past week, from $2.15 for a gallon of regular to $2.08. A year ago, a gallon of regular cost $2.20. Nationally, gas prices hit a new low for the year.

Fuel prices have been tumbling steadily for the past few months after starting the year high. The average gallon of gas was costing Ohioans $2.35 a month ago, a price that is nearly 27 cents higher than the current average. Over the past week, gas prices have fallen in 46 states, including Ohio, according to travel organization AAA. While Buckeye Staters are paying $2.08 on average, South Carolinans are shelling out only $1.90.

“The combination of tepid demand and increased gasoline and crude output continues to put downward pressure on gas prices,” said Jeanette Casselano, AAA spokesperson in a statement. “While holiday gasoline demand is likely to reach new highs, it will probably not be enough to cause a significant increase on the price of gasoline in the coming week.”

Gas in the Cleveland-Lorain area, the average gallon of regular is running $2.08, down from $2.10 a week ago. The July 4th gas prices are at a decade-long low, the cheapest fuel has been since 2005.

"Gasoline production in the region rose for a third consecutive week to the highest in a year, according to the EIA," AAA reported. "At the same time, stockpiles declined by 600,000 bbl to register at slightly north of 54 million bbl, which is 1.5 million higher than levels a year ago."
