Gas Prices Jump 7 Cents In Ohio

The average gas price in Ohio has jumped 7 cents over one week.

CLEVELAND, OH — Ohioans are paying nearly 7 cents more at the pump for a gallon of regular gas than they did a week ago. The average price of a gallon of regular is up to $2.25 on May 15, according to travel organization AAA. One week ago, prices were at $2.18 in the Buckeye State.

The Cleveland area is actually the exception in the state-wide price increase. One week ago, Cleveland-area drivers were paying $2.23 at the pump. By May 15, those same drivers were seeing an average price of $2.20, a 3 cent drop.

Cleveland is more in line with the national trends, of late. Gas prices have been dropping steadily for the past seven days across the nation. One week ago, the average price of gas nationally was $2.39. Now the average cost of a gallon of regular is $2.35 nationally.

In Ohio, gas prices went as low as $2.18 before this spike upwards. AAA says gas stocks have remained high in the Great Lakes Region, an unusual development this far into Spring. The organization believes that summer traffic volume will drive prices up sooner rather than later, and they seem to be correct.

Gas prices are expected to peak in late summer, either July or August. So there could still be fluctuation up or down between now and then.
