Gordon Square Project Wins Reuse of Land Award

The Edison has played a role in the rejuvenation of the Detroit-Shoreway area.

From NRP: The NRP Group, a vertical-integrated, best-in-class developer, builder, and manager of multifamily housing, announced today that Multifamily Executive has recognized The Edison at Gordon Square in Cleveland with its Best Reuse of Land Merit Award for 2018. The award notes the property's role in the rejuvenation to the post-industrial Detroit-Shoreway neighborhood and in bridging the divide between the city's downtown and Lake Erie.

The NRP Group transformed an unused industrial area of warehouses and vacant buildings at Breakwater Avenue between West 58th and 65th streets in the Detroit-Shoreway neighborhood into a new and modern 360-unit rental community with resort-style amenities, including a large pool, fitness center and a penthouse space.

"After all our hard work on this project, we are honored to be recognized with this award," said Aaron Pechota, Senior Vice President of Development at The NRP Group. "I'm sure that as the months and years go by, the community we created at The Edison will continue to evolve and thrive."
Since it opened, The Edison has been a catalyst for the renaissance of the surrounding neighborhood, spurring redevelopment of nearby vacant parcels and single-family home renovations, and creating new demand for restaurants and retail.

The project also upped the walkability quotient in an area where transit was formerly car-centric. A new multi-use biking and walking path that runs through The Edison now connects a handful of public parks, nature trails and cultural institutions, from Edgewater Park to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and Downtown Cleveland.
