Greater Cleveland Gas Prices Dip Slightly in New Year
Prices are down about 10 cents from a week ago. However, they're still up significantly compared to 2016.

CLEVELAND, OH - A new year means new gas prices. For most of the country, the average cost of a gallon of gas is going up. For Northeast Ohioans, that trend is reversed, as gas prices have dropped nearly 10 cents versus a week ago, according to travel organization AAA.
Regular gas is currently costing Greater Clevelanders about $2.32 a gallon. Last week, the average price of gas was $3.38. Mid-grade and premium gasoline are also down versus last week, but up significantly versus last year.
In fact, at this time last year, the average price of gasoline was $1.89. That means, in 12-months, gas prices have shot up nearly 40 cents on the gallon. Even when we look at last month's gas prices, we can see the steady climbing trend. In a matter of 30 or so days, gas prices have gone from $2.18 to $2.32.

Prices have been rising steadily since Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) announced it would increase its per-barrel cost, so expect gas prices to continue to climb. While Northeast Ohio is currently enjoying a reprieve from that national trend, our regional gas prices will undoubtedly begin to climb again soon.
Here's a comparison chart for the gas prices:
