Gunshot Wound Kills Cleveland Man Despite Help From Bystanders

Witnesses to the man's shooting tried to get him to a local hospital, but it was too late.

CLEVELAND — A man was shot in the chest on Thursday night, and found near a gas station on W. 130th Street, Cleveland Police said. Witnesses saw the man staggering and holding his chest, and helped the man into a car so they could take him to a hospital.

Witnesses said the man had initially been seen on Worthington Avenue, where he was staggering and holding his chest. He had a gunshot wound to his chest, police said. Witnesses helped the man into his car and tried to take him to a hospital, but flagged down Cleveland Metropolitan Housing Authority officers at W. 130 for help.

First District police were called to the scene at about 8:15 p.m. for reports of a man that had been shot. Officers arrived and EMS was already on the scene, treating the man and then rushing him to MetroHealth. The man died at the hospital, police said.

Detectives are still investigating the shooting.
