CLEVELAND — About 1 to 3 inches of snow will fall overnight in Northeast Ohio, the National Weather Service warned. A thin layer of ice could develop beneath the snow, making driving especially fraught.

The weather will begin to turn sour on Wednesday night, at about 6 p.m., according to a winter weather advisory issued by the National Weather Service. Conditions should begin to improve after 10 a.m on Thursday.

"Precipitation will start as all snow during the evening, but transition to a wintry mix after midnight. By mid-morning Thursday, precipitation is expected to change to rain with temperatures warming slightly above freezing," the National Weather Service said.

Morning commutes on Thursday could be slower and more dangerous than usual. Drivers should plan on having a longer-than-usual trek into work because of slippery road conditions.

Winter weather will continue on Friday, when up to 2 inches of snow could fall during the day. The weather should improve over the weekend, with clear skies and cold temperatures forecast for Saturday and Sunday.
