Indians Pitcher Ryan Merritt Sends Thank Yous to Fans that Bought Him Wedding Gifts

Meritt made his second pro start during the team's postseason run. Fans thanked him by him buying gifts off his wedding registry.

CLEVELAND, OH - Indians pitcher Ryan Merritt is a class act. After becoming a local darling during the team's nearly-perfect postseason run, fans thanked him for his sterling performance by buying him gifts from his wedding registry.

To thank the fans, Merritt and his soon-to-be wife, Sarah Brushaber, sent out signed Thank You cards to anyone that purchased a gift. The notes featured a photo of Merritt and Brushaber and a bible verse.

The gift buying started, as all of these things do, on the Internet. Merritt pitched 4.1 innings of two-hit, scoreless baseball in Game 5 of the ALCS. In the midst of his dazzling performance, some enterprising fan on the web dug up Merritt's actual wedding registry (which was at Pottery Barn and Target, if you're wondering) and suggested fans purchase gifts for the couple as a thank you.

Merritt didn't believe anyone had actually purchased the gifts. Until he realized that half of his registry had been filled in 30 minutes and a pile of boxes appeared at his house by the end of the week.

"We never imagined this is what would come out of Ryan's playoff experience," the couple wrote in the Thank You notes.
