It's Hot Out! Cleveland Breaks October Heat Record
Temperatures eclipsed 90 degrees in October for the first time in Northeast Ohio history.
CLEVELAND — October was never this hot in Cleveland. Temperatures eclipsed 90 degrees on Tuesday afternoon at Cleveland Hopkins Airport, breaking the month's Northeast Ohio record high for heat, the National Weather Service announced.
A heat wave has gripped Northeast Ohio since Monday, when temperatures climbed out of the 60s and into the 80s. On Tuesday, thermometers continued to rise until they hit 90 degrees...and then they kept climbing. The National Weather Service announced a new record-high for October shortly after noon on Tuesday.
All around Northeast Ohio, temperatures were perilously close to breaking heat records. Cleveland hit 91 degrees, Akron hit 89 degrees, Lorain hit 87 degrees, and Mount Vernon is at 90 degrees.

In classic Ohio fashion, the unseasonable heat won't last long. Temperatures are expected to plummet more than 30 degrees by Friday, when the high will be in the upper 50s. The high on Wednesday will be in the mid-80s and the high on Thursday will be in the upper 70s before Northeast Ohio gets much, much cooler.
Rain is expected on Wednesday night and Thursday, which will help cool things off. Once temperatures dip into the 50s on Friday, they'll remain cool for the foreseeable future. Next week's projected high temperatures are in the upper 60s.
