Jay-Z Holding Get Out the Vote Concert in Cleveland

CLEVELAND, OH - Rapper Jay-Z is coming to Cleveland for a get out the vote concert, Buzzfeed reports.

The concert is part of Hillary Clinton's campaign strategy to win the state and tip an extremely tight race towards the Democrat. The candidate has struggled to excite young voters, particularly young minority voters, in the state. There is hope that bringing Jay-Z to the Buckeye State could go a long way in mobilizing that demographic of voters.

Nearly two weeks out from Election Day, the Clinton campaign is preparing a final blitz on Ohio voters. Vice President Joe Biden is scheduled to speak in Dayton and Toledo Oct. 24. Chelsea Clinton will return to the state on Oct. 26, visiting the three largest cities: Cleveland, Columbus, and Cincinnati. Finally, alternative rock band the National will return to their hometown of Cincinnati on Nov. 2 for their own get out the vote concert.

Recent polls show Clinton in a dead-heat with her Republican opponent, Donald Trump. A poll from Suffolk University has the candidates tied at 45 percent in Ohio. Trump led by 3 points in Ohio, in the same poll, a month ago, holding a 42-to-39 percent advantage over Clinton.

“The race couldn’t get any closer in the Buckeye State,” David Paleologos, director of the Suffolk University Research Center in Boston, said in a statement. “Hillary Clinton has closed the narrow gap with Donald Trump since September, and the final outcome in Ohio could come down to the energy of each candidate’s base and the respective campaigns’ get-out-the-vote operations.”

Trump is focusing much of his energy on Florida this week, with four stops throughout the state scheduled. Governor Mike Pence, Trump's running mate, will be stumping in Ohio Oct. 25. Pence will visit Swanton, Ashland, and Marrieta.
