John McCain: Ohio Congresspeople React To Cancer Diagnosis

Senators and Representatives from across the Buckeye State sent thoughts, prayers and strength to the McCain family.

CLEVELAND, OH — Following Senator John McCain's diagnosis with glioblastoma multiforme, a form of brain cancer, Ohio's politicians rallied around the 2008 Republican candidate for president. Both of McCain's Ohio colleagues in the U.S. Senate sent thoughts and prayers via Twitter.

Doctors discovered McCain's cancer while operating on a blood clot behind the senator's eye on Friday. Glioblastoma is an aggressive and fast-growing form of cancer. Learn more about McCain's condition here.

Senator Sherrod Brown, Democrat, said he and his wife, columnist Connie Schultz, are thinking of McCain and his family and wishing him a fully recovery. Senator Rob Portman, Republican, said he and his wife Jane were sending love and prayers to McCain and his wife Cindy.

"John has more fight in him than anyone I know, and I look forward to having him back in the Senate soon," Brown said on Twitter.

Ohio's members of the U.S. House of Representatives also sent support and sympathy to the McCains. Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur, D-09, released a statement on Thursday afternoon.

"Our hearts and prayers go out to Senator John McCain and his dear family at this time of tribulation. His lifetime of patriotic service to our nation is truly admirable and rock solid," Kaptur said in the statement. "Like his acerbic wit, his life forms our national character. As he faces this battle, he lifts our nation in his typical‎ fashion – with courage and soulful confirmation to his countrymen. We stand tall with Senator McCain, drawing our strength from his battle tested heroism."
