Long Vacant Brooklyn YMCA To Be Razed
Cleveland City Councilmen Anthony Brancatelli and Kevin Kelley will host a watch party for those that want to see the building come down.
CLEVELAND, OH — The long vacant Brooklyn YMCA building will be demolished Thursday, June 7. And residents are invited to watch the building come down.
Cleveland City Council members Anthony Brancatelli and Kevin Kelley are hosting a demolition watch party from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. on Thursday. The party is also being hosted by the MetroWest Development Corp.
The Brooklyn YMCA has been vacant since 2006. The building was originally built in the 1950s, and since the facility's closure the property has been a frequent source of discussion in the Brooklyn Centre neighborhood.

From 2010 until 2014, the building passed to different companies. In 2014, the city condemned the building. A year later it was taken over by the Cuyahoga County Land Reutilization Corporation. Now, the YMCA is finally being demolished.
Razing of the building is being handled by the County Land Bank. The adjacent warehouse near the YMCA is scheduled for its own demolition soon.

The property will eventually be turned into a $13 million apartment complex with 71 units. EDEN, Inc. will be handling the apartment project.
