Man Laid In Street Until He Was Hit, Killed: Cleveland Police

Police are looking for the vehicle that hit the man, because it did not stop at the scene.

CLEVELAND — A man repeatedly laid down on an open street until he was hit by a minivan or crossover vehicle, Cleveland Police said. The man was rushed to a local hospital for treatment but passed away from his injuries on Sunday.

Police said they were called to the 12500 block of Oakfield Avenue at about 2:30 a.m. Callers reported that a man had been hit by a vehicle.

Witnesses said the man had been acting strangely before he laid in traffic. He was allegedly screaming and yelling while standing shirtless in the pouring rain. He then began laying down on Oakfield Avenue.

Approximately three vehicles were able to serve around the man, but a silver or light colored minivan, or crossover vehicle, hit him. The vehicle did not stop and police are currently looking for the driver.

Members of Cleveland Police's Accident Investigation Unit are exploring what happened. Anyone with information is asked to contact detectives at 216-623-5290
