Man Pleads Guilty To Attempted Murder Of Cleveland Cops

Jonathan Chambers shot at two police officers and shot a 37-year-old man in the neck, prosecutors said.

CLEVELAND — Jonathan Chambers pleaded guilty to shooting two Cleveland police officers and a 37-year-old man, Cuyahoga County prosecutors announced. None of the people Chambers shot were killed.

“By the grace of God, nobody was killed by this senseless act of violence” said Prosecutor Michael O’Malley. “Through the due diligence of Cleveland Police’s Homicide Unit and Gang Impact Unit, this individual was brought to justice.”

On November 3, 2018, Chambers and the 37-year-old got into an argument near E. 121st Street and Cromwell Avenue, officials said. The argument escalated out-of-control and Chambers shot the other man in the neck, officials said.

Cleveland police rushed to the home, but when officers arrived Chambers opened fire with a machine gun, according to officials. He shot one officer twice in both of his legs and then ran away, officials said.

The wounded officer and the 37-year-old were rushed to the hospital and Chambers was taken into custody that evening. Neither wounded person died.
