Suspect Arrested After Fatal Hit-Skip On Cleveland's Eastside

Robert Smith, 54, of Cleveland, died after he was hit near Woodhill Homes on Wednesday.

CLEVELAND, OH – Police arrested a 24-year-old man and charged him with felony hit-and-skip after he struck a pedestrian late Wednesday night near the Woodhill Homes public housing complex, according to police reports.

Mohammed Al-Shibar was arrested and booked on a charge of felony hit and run, police reported Friday.

Al-Shibar was arrested Thursday after an investigation, police said. According to police reports, he hit a 54-year-old, identified as Robert Smith, at about 11 p.m. Wednesday near the intersection of Woodland Avenue and Woodhill Road.

Smith, of Cleveland, was taken to University Hospitals, where he died of his injuries, reported the Cuyahoga County medical examiner's office.
