Massive Fire Ravages Condo Project In Rocky River

Crews from around Northeast Ohio worked through the night to contain the blaze on Hilliard Boulevard.

ROCKY RIVER, OH — A fire ravaged an unoccupied condominium project on Hilliard Boulevard on Sunday evening. A towering plume of smoke rose into the sky and could be seen in cities near Rocky River.

No one was inside the condos when the fire started, according to Fox 8. The blaze started around 6 p.m. and crews worked through the night to contain the flames. Crews were still spraying water onto hot spots on Monday morning, according to News 5.

The fire briefly shut down part of I-90 and Hilliard Boulevard. The highway has since re-opened to traffic. Drivers should avoid the Hilliard area, if possible.

Power to nearby buildings was also briefly cut during the fire. FirstEnergy's outages map shows no lingering outages in Rocky River or nearby communities.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
