The Moment The 'Victory Fridges' Opened In Cleveland

Watch as Northeast Ohioans celebrate a long-awaited victory with free beer.

CLEVELAND — It took more than 630 days for Browns fans to celebrate another victory for their team. Luckily, they got to enjoy the moment with free beer.

Bud Light installed Victory Fridges at different bars throughout the Greater Cleveland area. Locked up tight, the fridges were programmed to only open at the moment of a Cleveland Browns victory. After a Week 1 tie and a botched field goal in Week 2, the fridges seemed to be a cruel taunt.

They didn't seem that way on Thursday night. The Browns beat the New York Jets 21-17, winning their first game since Christmas Eve 2016. The victory sent cascading waves of unadulterated joy through the region, and...oh yeah...unlocked the Victory Fridges.

“The Browns have shown a lot of heart over the first two games of the season so it was only a matter of time until they would pull off an epic comeback win like this. Bud Light couldn’t be more thrilled for the Browns and the city of Cleveland as they savor the taste of this long awaited victory," Andy Goeler, Bud Light vice president, marketing said. "This fan base has stuck beside their team through it all so we’re happy to supply some celebratory beers from the Bud Light Victory Fridges that are now unlocked. We hope Browns fans have a blast celebrating this victory tonight. Dilly Dilly!”

Those fridges did not last long. When a team has been wandering in the winless desert for 600 plus days, fans get thirsty.
