Here are the top three stories today in Cleveland:
- Cleveland Mayor Justin Bibb is turning to the NBA All-Star games to increase the city's vaccination rate. When Mayor Bibb entered the mayor's office, only 46 percent of the city was fully vaccinated. In partnership with the NBA, Cleveland's COVID-19 task force plans to hold eleven vaccination clinics during the week of All-Star games. Those who receive a vaccination will be entered in to win tickets, signed merchandise, and various NBA-themed items. (Cleveland 19 News)
- A man was injured during a carjacking at a Cleveland gas station. The incident occurred in the 17500 block of Harvard Avenue in the morning hours of Friday. The unidentified man was struck over the head and suffered a cut above his eye. (Cleveland 19 News)
- This week, Ohio Senate President Matt Huffman said "no" to legalizing recreational marijuana in the state. Huffman emphasized to reporters that "no road to recreational marijuana will run through him," and Governor Mike DeWine had previously indicated he'd veto such a bill if it passed a legislative vote. If Ohio lawmakers don't pass a recreational marijuana bill in the next few months, organizers with the Coalition to Regulate Marijuana Like Alcohol will need to gather the same number of signatures (about 133,000) again by July to place the issue on the general election ballot this November.
