Nearly 3,500 First Energy Customers Powerless In Northeast Ohio

Thunderstorms are hammering the region and tornado watches are in effect Sunday night.

CLEVELAND, OH — More than 3,500 First Energy customers are currently without power, according to the company's power outages map. The largest concentration of outages appears to be west of Elyria and just south of Sandusky, where storms have hit Northeast Ohio the hardest.

Many of the customers have lost power can expect the lights to come back on by 7:30 p.m., according to First Energy's website. Nearly all of the listed causes of outages have been "due to inclement weather."

Sunday's storms were largely predicted by the National Weather Service (NWS). The agency warned residents in the Elyria-Lorain area on Saturday that thunderstorms could cause basement flooding with large rainfall accumulations.

Hard rainfall and thunderstorms are now pounding the Elyria-Lorain region with the area under a flash flood watch until Nov. 6 at 7 a.m. The area is also under a tornado watch until 7 p.m. Sunday.

Residents in Cuyahoga County are under the same advisories for flash flooding and tornado watches. While power outages between Lorain and Toledo have been common, the suburbs around Cleveland have also seen power outages.
