Officer Dragged By Car While Chasing Shaker Robbery Suspects

The Cleveland Police officer was pulled about 5 feet by the vehicle.

CLEVELAND, OH — A Cleveland Police officer became entangled in a car and was dragged 5 feet by the vehicle while chasing a group of robbery suspects Tuesday night. The officer was treated for his injuries and released at the scene. Police did manage to arrest one member of the group of suspects they were pursuing.

For several days, police have been searching for a vehicle that was stolen during an aggravated robbery in Cleveland. The vehicle was then spotted in two robberies in Shaker Heights.

While on patrol on Kinsman Road, Cleveland Police spotted a vehicle matching the description of the one involved in three robberies. Officers in a marked car started following the suspect vehicle, while requesting back-up.

At first, the officers were able to follow the suspect car at normal speeds. Then, something changed and the suspects started to speed up. The Cleveland Police car then flipped on its siren and overhead lights. Soon after, another police car joined the pursuit.

The chase lasted 14 minutes, according to police reports. The suspect's vehicle tried to lose its police tail during that time, but wasn't able to shake them.

The car then stopped on East 121 Street and the people inside the vehicle jumped out and began running on foot. Two suspects ran east and two suspects ran west.

Police found suspect Nayonne Wilson, 25, hiding underneath a vehicle in the backyard of a home on East 119th Street. Wilson was arrested.

Another suspect was chased by two officers through multiple yards before circling back towards his vehicle. The suspect jumped into the passenger side door of the car. One officer was able to stay with the suspect, pointing a gun at him and ordering him to get out of the vehicle.

The suspect then threw the car into drive, clipping the officer that had chased him with the door and dragging the cop about 5 feet. Luckily, the officer became dislodged.

The suspect then drove the car through front yards and onto sidewalks before getting onto East 120th Street and speeding away.

The suspect's vehicle was later found on East 121st Street with the keys in the ignition. The suspect that fled from police was not there.

Police are still investigating the incident.
