Ohio Crosses 6,000 Coronavirus Cases, 247 Deaths

More than 6,100 Ohioans have contracted the new coronavirus since the outbreak began in March, state health officials said.

COLUMBUS, OH — Ohio health officials confirmed the state has had more than 6,000 confirmed cases of the new coronavirus since the outbreak began in March.

As of Saturday afternoon, there were 6,187 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Ohio. At least 247 Ohioans have died due to complications from the virus.

There have been more than 1,800 hospitalizations since the COVID-19 outbreak began. More than 550 Ohioans have been treated in intensive care units because of the virus.

Cuyahoga County leads Ohio with the most confirmed cases of COVID-19, with 1,113. Mahoning County has seen the most death related to the virus, with 31 confirmed dead.

On Friday, Gov. Mike DeWine announced the Federal Highway Administration would allow food trucks to be stationed at Ohio's 86 rest areas to feed truck drivers and other essential workers. Ohio distilleries are now producing large qualities of hand sanitizer and Jobs Ohio has purchased 3,100 cases of the sanitizer - which equates to more than 1 million ounces - and will be donating it to the Ohio Association of Food Banks.
