Ohio Sees An Additional 1,150 New Coronavirus Cases, 19 Deaths

COLUMBUS, OH — For the first time in recent days, more than 1,000 Ohio residents have tested positive for the coronavirus, state health officials announced on Friday.

After the 21-day average for new positive cases remained at 974, officials have tracked 1,150 new cases in the past 24 hours, according to data released by the state health department Friday afternoon.

At least 19 deaths related to COVID-19 have been confirmed in Ohio in the past 24 hours. Since the pandemic started, 4,734 Ohioans have died from coronavirus complications while 148,894 have tested positive. The 19 deaths reported on Friday is slightly lower than the average of 23 the state had witnessed per day over the past week, according to data.

Hospitalizations also trended up slightly on Friday. The state has averaged 66 COVID-19-related hospitalizations per day over the past three week. On Friday, at least 76 Ohioans entered hospitals for COVID-19 treatment.

On Thursday, Gov. Mike DeWine announced that nine Ohio counties remain in the red alert zone as Ashland, Delaware, Pike, Scioto and Stark counties were added to the list of counties this week where cases of the coronavirus remain on the rise.
