Possible Hate Incident Being Investigated In Cleveland

Police said a man in his 50s may have tried to hit a group of Black men with his car, while shouting racial slurs.

CLEVELAND — A man in his 50s is accused of trying to hit a group of young Black men with his car. The man may have used racial slurs towards the men, according to Cleveland police.

The incident happened at 10 p.m. Sunday on Riverside Avenue, not far from the Riverside Cemetery. A group of young Black men were walking when a man tried to hit them with his 2001 Pontiac, police said.

A Cleveland police spokesperson said the man may have used racial slurs towards the group.

Detectives are now investigating the incident. Police said the case is being investigated as a possible felonious assault and hate incident.
