Power Outages In Northeast Ohio On Thanksgiving

Powerful wind gusts have left more than 1,700 people without power on Thursday morning.

CLEVELAND — More than 1,700 people are without power in Northeast Ohio on Thanksgiving morning, according to FirstEnergy. Powerful wind gusts blew through the region on Wednesday night.

The National Weather Service issued a high wind advisory for Cuyahoga County and a wind warning for Lorain County on Wednesday. The agency's forecasts warned residents their power could be in jeopardy heading into Thanksgiving.

Cleveland and the inner-ring suburbs were hit hardest by blasts of wind. Here are the cities hit hardest by the storms (all numbers current as of 10 a.m.):

  • Cleveland — 450 FirstEnergy customers without power (majority of customers should have power by 11 p.m.)
  • Garfield Heights —274 without power (majority of customers should have power by 11 p.m.)
  • Lakewood — 549 without power (majority of customers should have power by 4 p.m.)

Temperatures are in the upper 30s with a chance of light rain and snow on Thursday. Little to no accumulation is possible, but the lack of power to some home could lead to complications on Thanksgiving Day.
