Prolonged Hot Stretch To Cook Northeast Ohio

Temperatures will consistently climb into the mid-90s this week, with little chance of rain or reprieve.

CLEVELAND — Temperatures will climb into the mid-90s this week in Northeast Ohio.

"A prolonged stretch of hot conditions will continue through Friday. High temperatures will be in the low to mid 90s each day. Humidity will begin to increase by Tuesday with heat index values ranging from the mid 90s to near 100 degrees," the National Weather Service warned.

Residents should check on neighbors and family who are prone to heat illness, particularly the elderly.

There's little chance of rainy reprieve this week, forecasts say. Sporadic and short-lived thunderstorms could bring precipitation on Tuesday night or Wednesday morning, but temperatures will quickly climb back into the mid-90s.

The prolonged hot stretch won't begin to recede until the weekend. Temperatures will fall into the mid-80s by Sunday, according to current forecasts. There is a chance of thunderstorms every day during the weekend, starting Friday.

An air quality alert has also been issued for Northeast Ohio and is in effect until at least midnight.

"Air quality levels will be unhealthy for sensitive groups during this period. If you are in the sensitive groups category of children, the elderly and those with breathing difficulties, please monitor your outdoor activity and check air quality readings at airnow.gov," the National Weather Service said.
