Scooter Rider Killed In Downtown Cleveland Crash

Police said a woman riding an ICON scooter was hit by a Chevy Cruze. She was rushed to a local hospital and then pronounced dead.

CLEVELAND, OH — A 21-year-old woman was killed Saturday when her scooter was hit by a car, launching her onto the street. Police believe the driver of the truck may have been under the influence of alcohol.

The crash happened at about 10 p.m. on E. 9th Street. A Chevy Cruze was speeding in a 25 mph zone when it clipped the back of the woman's ICON G Electric Scooter. The woman was sent flying onto the street.

Emergency personnel found her on E. 9th and rushed her to Metro Health, where she was later pronounced dead. The driver, a 19-year-old, was not hurt in the crash.

Despite not being injured, the teenage driver was taken to St. Vincent for evaluation. He was then booked and housed at the Cuyahoga County Jail. Cleveland Police said he will be charged with aggravated vehicular homicide.
