Investigators initially told the media they believed Cutnoe and another person met at the library and then got into a fight. During the scuffle, several shots were fired by the suspect. The suspect then ran out of the library.

The Cleveland police homicide unit and the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner's Office are both taking part in the investigation.

The South Brooklyn Library Branch was closed on Wednesday after the shooting and re-opened to the public on Thursday.
