Shots Fired At Officers On East Side, Cleveland Police Say

No one was hurt in the shooting, police said. A citizen helped capture the suspect.

CLEVELAND — A man shot at Cleveland police and a crowd of people, according to police reports. A citizen caught the man and officers were able to take the suspect into custody.

Officers were patrolling the area of E. 61st and Superior when they were flagged down by a woman. She told police that a man had been threatening her brother with a gun. Officers then saw a group of men nearby.

One of the men in the group was checked for weapons. According to Cleveland Police, another man then pulled out a gun and fired a shot towards the group and then fired again toward the police.

No one was injured in the shooting.

After firing the shots, the man took off running, police said. A citizen managed to catch the man and keep him in the area until police got to him.

The suspect was treated for a cut he had sustained before police arrived. A 9 mm handgun was recovered at the scene, police said.
