Should The Browns Fire Hue Jackson?

After yet another overtime loss on Sunday, some fans are clamoring for a new head coach in Cleveland. Should Jackson go?

CLEVELAND — Sunday's Cleveland Browns game ended the way so many others have this season — in a dramatic overtime loss. The Browns dropped to 2-4-1 after the defeat and some fans are now clamoring for a new head coach.

The team watched the Tampa Bay Buccaneers kick a late field goal in the extra period and walk away with a win. The heartbreaking defeat meant Hue Jackson has won three games during his two and a half years as head coach of the Browns, and pressure for improved results is mounting.

In a contentious and occasionally heated post-game press conference, Jackson suggested he may strip offensive coordinator Todd Haley of play calling duties, and emphasized repeatedly that he is the head coach of the Browns.

The strange nature of the post-game conference added fuel to the fire of speculation surrounding Jackson's job security. Reports of tension between general manager John Dorsey and Jackson have been numerous in recent weeks, with some suggesting the trade of running back Carlos Hyde was a shot over the bow from Dorsey to Jackson.

Throw in Jackson's penchant for blaming players and other coaches for his team's failures and there's a recipe for a growing fan movement to replace the head coach. After last year's winless season, Jackson seemed to blame the organization and his players for the haplessness and then took credit for...not quitting.

"I don't think anybody else could've did this job," Jackson said in a press conference last season. "I don't think anybody else could've stayed in this job for two years and been 1-31. A lot of coaches would've said 'uncle' after last year."

Jackson also ignored his quarterbacks coach and tossed a rookie to the wolves.

Jackson also shifted blame for his offense's ineptness to coordinator Todd Haley on Sunday. That's when he suggested he may take over play calling.

“It’s not going to be about butting heads,” Jackson said Sunday. “I’m the head coach of the football team. I will do what I feel I need to do to get this team where it needs to be.”

Those words were met with skepticism from Cleveland's sports analysts and the Browns fanbase.
