Stranded Kayaker Rescued On Lake Erie
Cleveland Fire and the U.S. Coast Guard saved a person that got stranded on the choppy waters of Lake Erie on Thursday.

CLEVELAND — A stranded kayaker had to be rescued by Cleveland Fire, the Cleveland Metroparks and the U.S. Coast Guard on Thursday evening. The woman was found near the end of E. 156th Street.
The rescue happened at about 8:15 p.m., a U.S. Coast Guard spokesperson told Patch. The woman had fallen out of her kayak and was struggling to get back in. She managed to wedge her kayak onto shore, near a cliff, and hold there and was then rescued by rangers with the Metroparks.
No one was hurt during the operation, Cleveland Fire said.

This summer has been a busy season for rescue operations on Lake Erie. A combination of powerful currents and unusually choppy waves have made for dangerous waters. Several rescue operations have been executed over the past few months, not all of them successful.
Throughout the summer, there have been periodic beach hazard statements issued by the National Weather Service pertaining to the Lake Erie coast. Those statements warn swimmers to avoid the waters because of dangerous conditions.
