Thunderstorms Likely In Northeast Ohio This Weekend

A prolonged dry stretch could end this weekend in Northeast Ohio.

CLEVELAND — Thunderstorms will likely break heat's grip on Northeast Ohio this weekend.

Current forecasts show thunderstorms developing Friday night and Saturday morning. The National Weather Service said there is a 70 percent chance the storms develop overnight.

Northeast Ohio has been experiencing a prolonged dry and hot spell. Temperatures have consistently climbed into the 90s. On Thursday, much of northern Ohio was placed on a heat index warning, because temperatures outside felt like 104 degrees.

Approximately 1.5 inches of rain could fall before Saturday morning, the National Weather Service predicts. The new rainfall will bring temperatures into the 80s during the day and the high 60s overnight.

Rain and thunderstorms could continue into Saturday, with another .5 inch of possible during the morning.

There is a slight chance of thunderstorms on Sunday. The National Weather Service said there is a 40-percent chance of storms on the final day of the weekend.

After the rain, temperatures will immediately begin climbing. Forecasts predict highs in the 90s by Wednesday.
