Thunderstorms Likely This Weekend In Northeast Ohio: Forecast

The Greater Cleveland area could see a lot of rain this weekend.

CLEVELAND — Thunderstorms could form throughout the weekend in Northeast Ohio.

Current forecasts show a 60 percent chance of storms continuing through Friday and into Saturday, the National Weather Service said. Power lines and property could be at risk throughout the weekend.

"Showers and thunderstorms will increase in coverage across the area today. Some of the storms this afternoon into this evening may be strong to severe, with damaging winds and heavy rainfall the primary threats," the National Weather Service said on Friday morning.

The storms should stop by Sunday morning, forecasts show. The long-stretch of rain and storms should bring cooler temperatures to the region.

As August nears its close, Northeast Ohioans have enjoyed a week full of temperatures in the high 80s. With showers and storms drenching the weekend however, temperatures will plummet into the low 70s.

Sunday's high is projected to be 72 degrees, with an overnight low 57 degrees.

Temperatures should begin a modest climb upward when the next work week begins, forecasts show.
