Toys R Us Closing Remaining Ohio Stores, All U.S. Stores

The company has filed for liquidation meaning the toy store giant may be in its final days.

CLEVELAND, OH — Toys R Us said it must liquidate in a Bankruptcy Court filing, meaning it will likely close its remaining U.S. stores and sell-off all its merchandise. That means Ohioans at more than a dozen Toys R Us locations throughout the state will likely soon be out of a job.

The company announced in a press release on Thursday that it has asked a U.S. Bankruptcy Court for approval to start the process of winding-down its U.S. businesses. "I am very disappointed with the result, but we no longer have the financial support to continue the company's U.S. operations," said the company's CEO Dave Brandon.

That means some 33,000 Americans will soon be out of work. It also spells doom for the remaining Ohio stores.
