U.S. News 2020 High School Rankings: 5 In Ohio In Top 200

Life goes on, and so do the top high school rankings by U.S. News & World Report.

Attending high school in the age of the new coronavirus is an experience like no other in history. While there may no longer be in-class instruction, U.S. News & World Report has kept up its rankings of the nation's best high schools, finding only one school in Ohio among the top 100 in the nation; but more among the top 200.

“The Best High Schools rankings provide the most comprehensive, data-based information on nearly every public high school in the country,” Anita Narayan, managing editor of Education at U.S. News, said in a news release. “Families can use this information to see how their local schools compare on graduation rates and state assessments, as well as academic performance by students who are traditionally underserved — those who are black, Hispanic or from low-income households.”

Here are the top 10 schools in Ohio as ranked by U.S. News:

  1. Ottawa Hills High (No. 92 in nation)
  2. Walnut Hills High (No. 112 in nation)
  3. Bexley High (No. 136 in nation)
  4. Solon High (No. 137) in nation)
  5. Indian Hill High (No. 149 in nation)
  6. Wyoming High (No. 228 in nation)
  7. Chagrin Falls High (No. 330)
  8. Mariemont High (No. 333)
  9. Dublin Jerome High (No. 352)
  10. William Mason High (No. 426)

The following Northeast Ohio schools made the state's top 20 high schools: Solon High, Chagrin Falls High, Aurora High (No. 11 in Ohio, No. 454 nationally), Hudson High (No. 13 in Ohio, No. 460 nationally), Rocky River High (No. 19 in Ohio, No. 548 nationally) and Brecksville-Broadview Heights High (No. 20 in Ohio, No. 564 nationally).

U.S. News used a number of weighted criteria to come up with the rankings, the most important being college readiness. You can see the full methodology here.
