Ohio Man Found Shot To Death In Crashed Car On New Year's Day

Cleveland police said the man was found shot to death in a Jeep that crashed on Cleveland's west side on New Year's Day.

CLEVELAND — An unidentified man was found shot to death in a crashed car in Cleveland on New Year's Day, police announced.

At 1 a.m., callers reported hearing gunshots near W. 98th Street and South Marginal. When officers arrived, EMS was giving first aid to a man they had pulled out of a crashed car. The man was taken to MetroHealth Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

The man has not yet been identified by the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner's office, a police spokesperson said.

Investigators believe the unidentified man was driving a stolen Jeep Cherokee on W. 98th. Another car pulled up next to him and an argument broke out between the man in the Jeep and the other driver. Someone in the other car then pulled out a gun and fired at the Jeep.

The unidentified man was hit by multiple bullets. He tried to drive away but crashed into the bridge. The other car drove away before police arrived. No arrests have yet been made.

The Real Time Crime Center is assisting in the investigation, Cleveland police said. Anyone with information on the shooting should contact investigators at 216-25-CRIME.
