University Hospitals Completes Acquisition of University Suburban

CLEVELAND -- University Hospitals health system has agreed to the full purchase of University Suburban Health Center in South Euclid, Ohio. The facility is located at 1611 S. Green Rd.

“We are very pleased with our 47 years of progressive partnership with physicians, leaders and staff at UH Suburban Health Center,” said Cindy Zelis, MD, Vice President, UH Ambulatory Operations. “We’ve worked collaboratively to meet the evolving health care needs for residents of South Euclid and surrounding communities.”

Dr. Zelis said that UH physician practices currently located at this facility will continue to provide care, and other independent physicians with current leases will remain as tenants. Radiology, imaging and cardiology services will now be operated by UH Ahuja Medical Center. “Laboratory services will be operated by UH Lab Services Foundation, reflecting our low-cost, consumer-centric service model,” said Dr. Zelis.

The 155,000 sq. ft. medical building becomes one of the largest health centers among more than 50 operated by UH across Northeast Ohio.

University Suburban Health Center has been affiliated with University Hospitals since the center’s beginning in 1973. The acquisition finalized on March 13 and change of operations were effective March 16.

“The acquisition furthers our commitment to serve the health care needs of our patients in and around South Euclid and to provide the highest quality care close to home across Northeast Ohio,” said Dr. Zelis. “It creates a permanent presence for us in an excellent location with space to consolidate and expand services well into the future as advances in health care make it possible to deliver more treatments and procedures from an outpatient facility.”

Employees for the ancillary services that UH acquired were invited to apply for positions within UH. Many have been retained in their prior roles and will continue to provide care and services at UH Suburban Health Center.

Dr. Zelis said UH is bringing additional or enhanced services to the facility later in the year. Examples include providing a new location for the UH Eye Institute and opening an urgent care center for minor illnesses and injuries. UH will continue to explore additional opportunities that respond to the needs of the community in the future.

Over time, she said UH will invest to update some equipment and refresh the facility, which has existing space available for clinical and administrative services expansion.
