CLEVELAND — The Cuyahoga County Solid Waste District is asking Northeast Ohioans to alter their trash and recycling routines during the new coronavirus, COVID-19, pandemic. Many cities have already implemented changes to their waste collection protocol.

"To protect the health and safety of their workers, many communities and their contractors have implemented changes to normal collection services. Some of these changes include the suspension of bulky waste collections, yard waste collections and special waste services such as collections of household hazardous waste," a waste district spokesperson said in a statement.

  • Keep all bulky or special wastes until your city resumes collection services, if the service has been suspended.
  • Keep all waste and recyclables inside a container or cart. Do not leave any waste outside of containers.
  • Any waste which does not fit in a container or cart should be held for another week.
  • Check your city website for details or changes to normal waste collection.

"Following these tips will help ease the burden on waste collection workers as they continue to provide this critical and essential service to the residents of Cuyahoga County during this difficult time," the spokesperson said.
