CLEVELAND — Tuesday's winter storm has led to fatal car crashes and snarled traffic throughout Northeast Ohio. Two people were killed in an accident on the Ohio Turnpike in Richfield.

The crash happened during a pick-up in the winter storm weather, according to Fox 8. It's not yet clear what caused the crash.

There have also been traffic problems reported on Route 8 in Stow, several crashes have been noted in Streetsboro, and lake effect snow persists in pockets across Northeast Ohio. University Heights police advised drivers to stay home and avoid driving if possible.

Drivers should also hit the roadways slowly and with caution, if they have to drive. Give wider berths to other cars, and try to avoid stopping as much as possible. Much more force is needed to restart a vehicle.

A winter storm warning is in effect for Lake, Geauga, Cuyahoga, Ashtabula Inland and Ashtabula Lakeshore counties. The National Weather Service forecast a possible 2 to 5 inches of snow accumulation before the storm abates on Wednesday afternoon.
