Winter Storm Will Continue Until Saturday In Northeast Ohio

Up to 11 inches of snow could fall before the storm begins to slow down.

CLEVELAND — Up to 11 inches of snow could fall in Northeast Ohio before the weather calms again, the National Weather Service warned. A winter storm warning has been issued for the region and will remain in place until 6 p.m. on Saturday.

The winter storm warning was issued for Cuyahoga, Lake, Geauga and Ashtabula counties.

Traveling to work will be difficult, the agency warned. "Widespread blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility. The hazardous conditions will impact the morning or evening commute. Gusty winds could bring down tree branches. Temperatures will remain in the middle to upper 20s for highs today, Friday, and Saturday," the National Weather Service said.

The combination of heavy snowfall and powerful winds could cause flooding and erosion along the Lake Erie coast, the National Weather Service warned. Massive waves could soon be crashing onto the banks of the lake, according to Fox 8.

A low pressure system is moving north into Quebec, causing the winter storm in Northeast Ohio. Cold air in the area will cause lake effect snow to fall in the snowbelt of Northeast Ohio and Northwest Pennsylvania.

The snowfall should begin to slow on Friday night and should stop by Saturday afternoon. Sunday should be partly sunny with a high in the mid-40s, according to current forecasts.
