Woman Dies After Being Assaulted In Cleveland: Police

A 57-year-old woman has died after she was attacked, twice, in Cleveland, police said.

CLEVELAND — A 57-year-old woman has died eight days after being assaulted in Cleveland, police said.

On Feb. 6, callers reported a woman being attacked on E. 79th Street. A witness said he saw a man repeatedly punching the woman in the face. The witness chased the man off and pursued him. He lost track of the attacker and then eventually went back to check on the woman. When he returned, the suspect had also come back and was again attacking the woman.

The suspect again fled on foot, police were told. Detectives with the third district arrested a 26-year-old man for the attack. He was initially charged with felonious assault.
