Woman Killed Near McGowan Park In Cleveland

CLEVELAND — A 58-year-old woman was found shot to death near McGowan Park on Thursday night, Cleveland Police said.

There were reports of shots fired near McGowan, on the city's west side, at 7 p.m. When officers arrived they were flagged down by witnesses. The woman was found unresponsive, with a gunshot wound to her head. She was pronounced dead on the scene, by EMS.

Both the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner's Office and the homicide unit were called to the scene to investigate.

The witnesses that spoke to police had discovered the body while walking in the area. They hadn't seen the actual shooting, police noted.

A small dog was found in the area, and investigators determined the pet belonged to the shot woman.
