1. Man accused in death of Cleveland Heights toddler faces judge (cleveland19.com) — A Cleveland Heights family is grieving after a 3-year-old boy fatally shot himself with a handgun left on a lounge chair, and the accused 19-year-old East Cleveland man has now pleaded not guilty in county court. Cleveland Heights police say drugs were also found in the home, and the suspect remains held on a $500,000 bond with another hearing set for Sept. 29.
2. Doan Brook restoration project aims to remove aging dam and reshape Shaker Heights park (news5cleveland.com) — Cleveland Heights residents could see big changes around Horseshoe Lake as the sewer district advances a $32 million project to remove the failing dam, restore Doan Brook, and rebuild parkland. Cleveland Heights and Shaker Heights are jointly funding new amenities, including a bridge reconnecting North Park to South Park, with construction expected to start in 2027 if permits are approved.
3. Couple is kicked out of hotel after fight in parking lot: Independence Police Blotter (cleveland.com) — An Independence police chase ended only after spike strips stopped a car whose driver and passenger both had outstanding warrants, including one from the Cleveland Heights Police Department. The driver was jailed on his warrant while the passenger was warned and released, alongside other Independence incidents like a hotel parking lot fight and an impaired driving arrest.
4. OHSAA releases first football computer ratings (yourohionews.com) — Cleveland Heights football appears in the first OHSAA computer ratings, currently sitting near the bottom of Division I, Region 1 with a 1–4 record. The statewide list shows where Heights stacks up against powers like Mentor and St. Edward, and which schools are on track for playoff berths. Fans can already see how much work remains to climb the rankings.
