Global Wind Day

Global Wind Day: A look back to move forward.

In Columbus Ohio, June 15th just over 50 campers from the Central Community House Summer Challenge program learned about Global Wind Day. The Sierra Club's Clean Energy For All and Ready for 100 Columbus campaigns explained to the campers about how the Wind could power their community. The Sierra Club Ohio Chapter helped to demonstrate the power of the wind by coloring wind turbines and for the older students building a model wind turbine and making old-fashioned kites, which the campers added their personal artistic flair too.

The Summer Challenge program is a day camp for children ages 5-13 created that they may continue learning and growing over the summer months. The Central Community House provides very nutritious meals and snacks each day. Children will enjoy educational projects, special field trips, intense art workshops and more to ensure the continuous learning and growth of the campers.

The Central Community House maintains their Bryden location which is next to Blackburn park. The sight of the children running back and forth to get the lift needed to make their kites fly. The students were able to see the wind turbine generate power all while having fun. The counselors at the camp were able to get a deeper understanding that action must be taken on HB 114 to utilize a nearly free resource to help the state, city and everyday ratepayer save money.

This is the type of meaningful education and outreach that the Sierra Club Ohio Chapter is doing in Columbus communities and across the state. As we continue to celebrate Global Wind Day and other renewable energy resources. The Clean Energy For All and Ready for 100 Columbus campaigns would like to do more education and outreach by giving an in-depth explanation to all Ohioans of how the Wind and other renewable energy sources could power our world. and how we the people must stand up and demand a cleaner and healthier future when it comes to energy generation and usage.
