Great River Connections Academy Ready For Inaugural School Year

Ohio's newest K-12 eSchool set to open August 27th for students statewide

Great River Connections Academy (GRCA), Ohio’s newest virtual public charter school, is set to begin its inaugural year August 27th providing students in kindergarten through 12th grade across Ohio a quality, flexible educational experience.

GRCA’s School Leader Jason Swinehart, a longtime teacher and administrator at Ohio Connections Academy (OCA), brings a wealth of virtual education experience to GRCA. He’s looking forward to the official opening of the school, and ready to apply his knowledge and experience to serve additional students and families.

“Online school serves a unique population of students, and I’m grateful students throughout the state have an opportunity to choose what environment works best for them and their families,” Swinehart said. “We are excited Ohio families will have another quality eSchool option with Great River Connections Academy, especially at a time when the landscape of Ohio eSchools is shifting. We are proud to be able to offer this new educational opportunity and look forward to working with our students and their families.”

Great River Connections Academy will meet the needs of a diverse array of students who desire an innovative, individualized approach to education—including those significantly ahead or behind in the classroom or need a flexible schedule, among others. Learning from home, GRCA students will receive core classes, engaging electives, Career and Technical Education (CTE) courses, and honors and AP course offerings, as well as have the opportunity to participate in the College Credit Plus program. Students will access online instruction, engage with interactive web tools, and interact with teachers and peers in real-time online classroom sessions.

Like Ohio Connections Academy, the highest performing K-12 eSchool for the last seven years, Great River Connections Academy will utilize the nationally recognized Connections Academy® program and its award-winning curriculum, which supports Ohio Learning Standards and meets iNACOL’s National Standards for Quality Online Courses. As a public school, there are no fees or tuition to attend GRCA.
