Ohio Connections Academy Enrollment for the 2018-2019 School Year

Virtual public school offers innovative school choice for K-12 students throughout Ohio; space limited for 2018-19

Ohio Connections Academy (OCA), the tuition-free, full time public K-12 virtual school, will officially open enrollment for the 2018-19 academic year on Thursday, March 1st.. To provide more details about the school and how the online program works, OCA will be hosting in-person and online information sessions in the coming weeks for interested families. Given the demand for online school in Ohio, space may be limited for the next school year.

Ohio Connections Academy is a fully-online public school that enables students to attend from home or wherever there is Internet access. The accredited online program delivers high-quality, personalized education for students that combines Ohio-certified teachers, a proven curriculum, technology tools, and community experiences—online and in-person—to create a supportive environment for children who want an individualized approach to education.

Students work with certified teachers online and on the phone while the “Learning Coach” (a student’s parent or another adult) monitors the progress. As a public school, there is no tuition to attend.

For the first time in its 15 years serving students in Ohio, OCA recently reached its capacity for enrollment for the current school year, so interested parents and students are advised that space may be limited for the 2018-19 school year. Marie Hanna, Ohio Connections Academy Superintendent, strongly encourages families to attend an information session so they can learn as much as possible about the school and speak with member of the faculty and/or parents of children who attend OCA.

“These information sessions provide a valuable opportunity for parents to discuss the program and discover if OCA is the right fit for their child. This is a major decision for parents and students, so we do everything we can to help them understand what to expect from a virtual school and how the parent plays a critical role in their child’s academic success,” Hanna said.

Information Sessions

Beginning in April, Ohio Connections Academy will host free in-person information sessions throughout the state for parents. During the information sessions, families will have an opportunity to learn about the school’s curriculum and other details about the program. They can also interact with school representatives and other parents. For those unable to attend an in-person information session, real-time online sessions with a school representative are also available. A complete schedule with dates and locations is available at www.OhioConnectionsAcademy.com/Events or by calling (800) 382-6010.

Parent Satisfaction

In a 2017 survey of OCA parents and students, the program received high marks for its academic rigor, program flexibility, the high quality of its teachers, and for delivering high levels of student achievement. Ninety-four percent of parents agreed that the curriculum is high quality and 93 percent are satisfied with the variety of learning activities. Ninety-three percent of parents said they were also pleased with the helpfulness of their children’s teachers, and specifically praised their responsiveness and accessibility.
