Nominated by students and colleagues, Johnson is one of just 22 educators across the country to receive this award. This is the first time the FBA is recognizing teachers for their dedication to civics education.
Johnson, a resident of Columbus, is finishing his fourth year at Ohio Connections Academy. In addition to American Government, he has taught U.S. History, World History, Economics and Personal Finance. He earned his bachelor’s degree in History from Bluffton University and is working towards a master’s degree in Political Science from American Public University.
“I love being able to teach students about government,” Johnson said. “Since many of the topics we cover directly impacts their lives, the students tend to really engage in discussions and want to gain an understanding of how our government works. The best part of my day is when a student asks an insightful question tying in that day’s topic to current events.”
