Walmart/Sam's Clubs Raise Money for Mercy Children's Hospital

More than $35 million raised nationally during annual campaign to support critical medical care for children

Local Walmart and Sam's Club associates, customers and members recently wrapped up the annual Children’s Miracle Network Campaign collecting $183,000 on behalf of Mercy Health – Children’s Hospital in Toledo. Nationally the campaign raised more than $35 million for member hospitals across America. Today’s announcement took place at Mercy Children’s while local Walmart managers spent their morning making blankets for patients through the “Fleece & Thank You” program.

“Our entire team did an amazing job in finding new and creative ways to support the campaign,” said Walmart Market Manager Ron Beadnell. “We are very fortunate to work closely with the team at Mercy Children’s and appreciate the outstanding work it does to support children and their families through very difficult times. Each year this campaign brings the entire Walmart team together because we know the difference it makes for so many children.”

Donations were accepted from Aug. 29 to Nov. 3, as Walmart and Sam’s Club associates at locations throughout Northwest Ohio organized in-store fundraising activities and asked customers and members at the register to help the kids and families who rely on Mercy Children’s Hospital for world-class care.

“Walmart and Sam’s Club associates’ support for children treated at our partner hospitals has always been rooted in an authentic desire to help kids in need,” said John Lauck, president and CEO, Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals. “Their passion is amplified millions of times over by customers and members who believe in our mission to give kids a chance at a better life. Their incredible response to the store- and club-level fundraising efforts are inspiring and impactful.”

In addition to the 2017 campaign results, the Walmart representatives also announced the company has donated ride-on toys to more than 130 Children’s Hospitals around the country including two to Mercy Children’s Hospital. The Disney Princess and Monster Truck ride-on toys will be used for the children to play with during their stay.

The fall Children’s Miracle Network campaign is the most recent in annual fundraising by the retailers. Walmart and Sam's Club associates have collected nearly $1 billion for sick and injured children since partnering with the charity in 1987. Funds raised through Walmart and Sam's Club impact each of the 170 Children's Miracle Network Hospitals, which treat one in 10 children across North America. Hospitals utilize the funds based on what they need most — typically providing lifesaving equipment and research, supporting top therapy programs and providing charitable care.
